It’s time for Easter Camp, and you know what that means... Regatta Season is coming!
You’ve probably started with a few head races, but now it’s time to lock in and get regatta-ready. Here are some tips, tricks, and even fitness ideas to help you get started.
Rest Up
You’ve just finished university training and are now awaiting Easter Camp, what’s next? REST. Injuries are one of the biggest challenges rowers face. Overworking yourself all year round is simply not healthy. Your body needs time to recover, so enjoy some chilled sessions or active recovery.
Here are some great active recovery or rest day activities you can do:
-
Long walks are a brilliant way to relax while still getting your steps in. Listen to a podcast, take your dog out, or even go for a coffee walk with a friend. Take some time for yourself and enjoy not being on the erg.
-
Stretching/Yoga helps relieve stress and improve mobility. Stretching can be a low-impact activity that keeps your body ready for Easter Camp. But remember not to overstretch! It’s important to remember these sessions are for relaxing, not pushing yourself.
-
Indoor/Outdoor Bike should only be done if you’re itching for another workout. UT2 indoor cycling can be a great way to top up your fitness without impacting your body. As mentioned, ensure you don’t push yourself. 30–45 minutes on low resistance should be plenty.
Fuel Up
Aside from active recovery, what else can you do? You can fuel up! Your body has taken a beating with test days and cold morning sessions. Why not refuel and recover with some healthy meals and cheeky sweet treats? Prep your body for Easter Camp with good fuel and treat yourself to an Easter egg or two!
Clean Up
Lastly, get all your kit and training bag clean. Nothing feels as good as clean kit and a tidy bag.
-
Make sure to wash your all-in-ones on a delicate cycle and let them air dry to prevent damage or wear and tear.
-
Splash jackets and waterproofs should be done by hand, as these membranes can be temperamental in washing machines.
Why not also top up your kit bag? Stock up on electrolytes, snacks, or even new accessories. Godfrey offers a wide range of accessories, such as seat pads, rigger jiggers, or gloves, to make sure you are prepared, even if you’re injured or missing that rigger jigger!
